What can cause clutch chatter?

Clutch chatter is a condition involving uneven engagement and disengagement of the clutch, often experienced as a shaking or jerking motion when starting from a stop or during clutch engagement. Grease or oil on the clutch facing can significantly contribute to this issue by creating a slippery surface that prevents proper friction between the clutch disc and the flywheel. When the clutch disc is coated with lubricant, it cannot grip the flywheel adequately, leading to inconsistent engagement.

This lack of traction results in the clutch catching and slipping unevenly, which in turn causes the chatter effect that drivers experience. Maintaining a clean and oil-free surface on the clutch components is crucial for smooth operation and to avoid this problematic behavior.
